| alpine cde-102. its heating up like my old deck was, been a month since i put it in and its starting to shut off when im driving? why.. it just cuts out, completely shuts off, then immediatly turns back on, but shuts off again unless i turn the volume way down. this is happening at volumes between 20-23 of total limit 35. im at a good level of volume but whats wrong with this one now. i absolutely have tried everything to figure this whole "heating up" situation, but whats with the shuttin off now |

Is this deck running a pair of speakers? 4 pairs of speakers? What's it running?
Possibly the impedance load is too low and the deck is finally being put into submission.

| I have a cap hooked up but I can't figure it out. So explain voltage drops a little more. But my deck is just wired up to my stock speakers.. Colors are hooked up to corresponding wires and they're all wired correctly so why does this thing heat up like this. This happened to my old deck to so I'm thinking it's something to do with voltage or speakers |

| It's heating up on the heat sink so bad to where I can't touch it. It takes about 5 mins to heat up this bad. My grounds are grounded to the chassis and all wired correctly. Could it have anything to do with the amountnof power being used in my car? 1000wrms? |

| I agree with Emperor, if you meter your speakers and find they are not shorted then it's got to be a problem with the head unit. |

| more or less yeah you will need to get new or different ones. to measure them get you a mulitmeter check the ohm load they are presenting if its under what ever ohms your cd player works with then that could be your problem |

| K I remember testing my speakers with my last deck to see if they sounded blown, and they sounded good so I didn't think it was a problem. I have a setting on my deck that let's me turn off the power to my speakers And just listen to bass from the subs so I tried that and sure enough the deck was cool as ice. So thanks guys I now know that it's my speakers, but if they don't sound blown, then how do I know if thy're shorting out somewhere down the line? Thanks so much for the help guys this has been buggin the shhh&$&!/ outa me since day one |

i took out the speakers and they all are the same, 6x9 and they're all 4 ohm, but they all take 15w it says.

my deck is 4ohm stable but says it puts out 18w rms, so if my speakers arent blown, (which they most likely are) is this overpowering another good reason the deck would heat up |

did you get the multimeter and test the ohms of your speakers?
you might have a short in the wiring from the speaker to the cd player as well that could cause some issues |

| How do I use the multiple meter to test the wires, because the clips on the end that connect to the speaker prevent me from accessing the wire but I can stick the ends of the multimeter into the clip and do itthat way correct? And when doing this do I just set it to AC and see if it reads 12V? |

the one i have has a thing that says ohms on it, looks like a horse shoe. the leads on the speaker should read between 3.5-4ohms or so.
just unhook the speakers and test the speaker without wires connected |
